Duration: 1 Year for AS. 2 Years for A2

This course provides a firm foundation in electronics knowledge and understanding, together with mathematical competence for those wishing to proceed to further study in Electronics, Engineering or Physics, or for those who wish to use the qualification to gain direct entry to the workplace.

Entry Requirements

Essential
Level 2 threshold (5 A*- C grades or equivalent) including a grade C or higher in Mathematics and Science.

Desirable
A grade ‘B’ is advisable.

What Will I Study?

AS

Component 1 Principles of Electronics 80% 2½ hour exam.
Component 2 System design and realisation tasks 20% - non exam assessment.

A2

Component 1 Principles of Electronics 40% 2 ¾ hour exam.
Component 2 Application of Electronics 40% 2 ¾ hour exam.
Component 3 Extended system design and realisation task = 20% non-exam assessment.

How Will I Be Assessed?

AS components 1 and A Level components 1 and 2 are examined through written examinations
AS component 2 and A Level component 3 are completed and assessed internally.

Career Opportunities & Progression

The course provides a suitable foundation for the study of Electronics or a related area through a range of degree courses (e.g. Electronics, Engineering, Physics) or direct entry into employment. In addition, the course provides a coherent, satisfying and worthwhile course of study for candidates who do not progress further in this subject.
