Course Outline
This qualification gives you a great platform to further develop your ICT skills as well as communication and problem solving skills. It will build on skills learnt at GCSE and be a stepping stone to further education and the world of work in a wide variety of subjects and careers.

Duration: 2 Years
The BTEC in IT is a Level 3 qualification which is the equivalent of an A-level. It is at a more advanced level than the work you will have done in Year 11.
The learning programme covers the following content areas:
Information technology systems
Database design and implementation
Website development
Using social media in Business
Entry Requirements
Essential
Level 2 threshold (5 A*- C grades or equivalent)
Desirable
Pass grade or higher in Level 2 IT
What Will I Study?
Year 12
Using social media in business – Explore different social media websites and the ways in which they can be used to improve business.
Creating systems to manage information – Design, develop and implement a database structure for a given scenario
Year 13
Information technology systems – exam-based unit that will explore the relationship between hardware and software that form the IT system
Website development – review existing websites then design and create a website using different software and code.
How Will I Be Assessed?
All units will be assessed and graded at Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction*
The styles of external assessment used for qualifications in the IT course are:
Examinations – all learners take the same assessment at the same time, normally with a written outcome
Set tasks – learners take the assessment during a defined window and demonstrate understanding through completion of a vocational task.
