HISTORY

Course Outline
Studying history allows you to understand and explore historical content examining how the past has shaped (and continues to shape) global, national, and local relationships between societies and people. There is the opportunity to develop and build on many skills seen at GCSE.

Qualification Information:

Level: AS/A2
Syllabus: WJEC
Duration: 1 Year for AS. 2 Years for A2

At AS there are two modules which are taken in the summer of Year 12. At A2 a coursework essay (Module 3) is completed in class and there is a synoptic module taken in the summer of Year 13.

Entry Requirements

Essential
Level 2 threshold (5 A*- C grades or equivalent), including a grade C at GCSE History if the subject has been studied before.

Desirable
A grade ‘B’ is desirable.

  • Germany, Democracy to Dictatorship 1918-1945 – Weimar and its challenges

Year 13 Units - Lliswerry High School

  • Poverty, protest and rebellion in Wales & England 1485-1603

  • Nazi Germany 1933-1945

  • A non-examination assessment (NEA)

How Will I Be Assessed?

Unit 1 90 minute essay exam

Unit 2 105 minute sources exam

Unit 3 105 minute essay exam

Unit 4 105 minute written essay and source question

Unit 5 Coursework

All Units are worth 20% of the A2 grade

The training that History offers is seen as especially valuable by many employers. These include:
Accountancy, Law, Banking, Police, Local Government, Business Management, Marketing, Civil Service, Insurance and Armed Forces.

A good A Level pass is also very well respected by all Universities for many degree courses.
